Day 3 Training in Ethiopia

Today we grouted localised voids in walls supported by clay and earth daub reservoirs and gravity grouting larger acres, under pressure from the head achieved by the tank. In both cases the areas were flushed out with water to clean the dirt out of the walls, pre wet the masonry and to ensure that the lime grout would note leak when poured in.

The gravity grouting started at the base of the wall to try and force the grout up and more effectively fill the voids.

In both cases the grout consisted of mature feebly hydraulic lime putty that was beaten to a cream consistency, left to settle over night to allow the excess water to be drained off. Just before use we added a third generation polycaroxylate polymer based superplasticizer
